Layton is 6!

Layton turned 6 years old on August 15!  I sure can not believe how fast these six years have flown by.  I still remember the day he came into our life, just like it was yesterday.  He is one of the funniest kids I know and everyone tells me the same.  Love you to the moon and back, times infinity, Layton!

We were in WF on the 15th, so we celebrated at El Fenix during lunch.  Kade, secretly, told the waiter that it was Layton's birthday.  Layton was completely shocked when the wait staff came out to sing to him.  It was priceless!

Of course, Kade had to try the hat on too!

My kids didn't plan their birthday arrivals too well, especially being a teacher's kid!  Kade's is during Spring Break and Layton's is always the week of teacher inservice.  So, they usually don't get much of a party.  Layton even picked out his own cake and his birthday presents!

My sister, Skye, gave Layton $100 in $1 bills.  He thought he was super rich!

First Day of School 2012

Kade is in the 5th grade this year.  I'm so excited he is up on the hill with me.  I am his reading teacher this year.  He is the perfect student!

Layton started Kindergarten.  He really hasn't decided if he likes it or not yet.  I think he does, but he lets on that he doesn't.  I know his thinking though, and if he keeps this attitude, he can say he told me so, just in case things go south!

Mire-Jones Wedding

Clint's cousin, Kelsye, got married in August.  Layton was lucky enough to be the ring bearer in the beautiful wedding.  Layton did a great job during the wedding and then afterwards at the reception where he pretty much ran the photo booth (props and camera) the entire time.  We had a great time catching up with family and even finished our weekend off with a short trip to Six Flags Over Texas.

Running the booth.  Picking out props for people.

When there was down time, he would just take pictures of himself!

This photo of the boys and I made the photographer's page for the wedding.  I love them so much!

Here is another one on the photographer's web site of the bride and some of her wedding party.  Notice Layton in the corner of the frame.  Almost everyone that went in asked him to jump in the pic too!  Of course, he took them up on their offer.

Camp Grady Spruce & Roy the Raccoon

In July Kade and a friend attended Camp Grady Spruce at Possum Kingdom Lake.  He just went during the day, so not entirely like a real camp.  Kade enjoyed all kinds of outdoor activities, learned to water ski and came home each day with tons of funny songs and sayings.

At the beginning of the summer the boys and I were helping Clint build fence.  To make a long story short, we found a baby raccoon (eyes still closed).  We let the boys bring it home and a friend who had raised one before helped us out.  She didn't actually, but her Yorkie dog did.  The Yorkie had just had a puppy and took the baby raccoon as one of her own and nursed it.  We named the raccoon Roy and brought him home to live with us in July after he started eating dog food on his own.  It was quite an experience!  Roy has since moved on, but we enjoyed our time with him.

Here is a funny video of Roy and his funny behavior.  Sorry the video is turned sideways and not edited, but you can get the gist.  Layton is the victim (he loved it, though).

Fun in June

Our summer flew by, as usual.  We worked on our house most of June, July and August, so no big vacations for us.  During the month of June, however, the boys went to basketball camp, the lake, Lego Land in Grapevine with Mama Chris and H, and attended their second annual Cousin Camp with H&H.  Great memories were made!

It really looks like they are at camp!  Mama Chris entered them in a kids cooking contest and they were called the Cookin' Cousins.
